Tab Revolver (“the Service”) is (“we”, “us”, or “our”), acting as the data controller for the purposes of applicable data protection laws. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have regarding your information.
1. Information We Collect
A. Account Information (Cloud Sync – Optional)
When you choose to sign in and enable cloud sync, we collect: User ID, Name and Email Address. Authentication is handled via Google Sign-In. We store your unique user ID and email address solely to:
- Identify your account
- Secure access to your synced data
- Enable cross-device synchronization
Sign-in is optional. You can use the extension without creating an account.
B. User Content (Playlists & Settings)
Cloud-Synced Data (Only if you enable Cloud Sync)
- Playlist names
- Emojis
- Tab URLs you explicitly add
- Rotation intervals and playlist configuration
This data is stored securely in Google Cloud so you can access it across devices.
Local-Only Data
- Preferences such as:
- Auto-start rotation
- Skip pinned tabs
- Rotation behavior
- Stored locally using Chrome’s storage API
Local data is not sent to our servers unless it is part of a playlist you explicitly choose to sync. Chrome may sync some local settings across your devices if you have Chrome Sync enabled.
C. Anonymous Usage Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the extension is used and to improve performance and stability.
Data collected includes:
- Feature usage events (e.g., start rotation, stop rotation, create playlist, sync completed)
- Error and crash events
- Browser version, operating system, and extension version
What we do NOT collect:
- Browsing history
- Page contents
- Form data
- Passwords
- URLs or activity outside the tabs you explicitly add to playlists
Analytics data is aggregated and pseudonymous and is not used to directly identify you as an individual.
D. Anonymous Rotation Sampling (Temporary)
When you start a tab rotation, we may collect the URLs included in that rotation session for product improvement purposes. This data:
- Is collected anonymously without any user identification
- Contains only the URLs being rotated, not page contents
- Is automatically deleted within 5 days of collection
- Is used solely to understand usage patterns and improve the product
This temporary data is not linked to your account and cannot be used to identify you personally.
2. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
We process personal data under the following lawful bases:
- Contractual necessity – to provide cloud sync and account-related features you request
- User consent – where applicable (e.g., analytics)
- Legitimate interests – to improve product performance, reliability, and user experience, without overriding your privacy rights
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide the Service
Enable playlist management and optional cross-device sync - Improve the Extension
Analyze aggregated usage data to fix bugs, improve performance, and prioritize features - Support Communication
Respond to inquiries or support requests if you contact us directly (We do not use your email for marketing without explicit consent)
4. Data Storage and Security
- Cloud Infrastructure
Cloud data is stored on Google Cloud, which uses industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest. - Local Storage
Local data is protected by Chrome’s extension sandbox and security model. - Secure Communication
All communication between the extension and cloud services occurs over secure HTTPS connections.
5. Data Retention
- Account & Cloud Data
Retained for as long as your account is active or until you request deletion. - Analytics Data
Retained according to Google Analytics retention policies. - Rotation Sampling Data
Automatically deleted within 5 days of collection.
You may request deletion of your cloud data at any time.
6. Data Sharing & Disclosure
- No Data Selling
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. - Service Providers
We rely on trusted infrastructure providers (Google Cloud and Google Analytics) that comply with strict data protection and security standards. - Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access your data
View your synced playlists within the extension or companion web app - Delete your data
Local data: Uninstall the extension or clear extension storage
Cloud data: Request account and data deletion by contacting us - Opt out of analytics
While the extension does not currently provide a built-in toggle, you may limit analytics via network-level controls or contact us for assistance
8. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under the minimum age required by applicable data protection laws. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected by updating the Effective Date above or, where appropriate, via an in-extension notification.
